AeroPress Original XL Coffee Maker
AeroPress Stainless Steel Filter - XL
The AeroPress XL uses the same breakthrough technology as the AeroPress Original. As the only coffee maker on the market that combines the best of 3 brew techniques into one simple to use press, you get uniquely delicious, grit free flavor. Create Americano, espresso style, latte or cold brew tailored to your taste in 1-2 minutes. So what makes the AeroPress XL different? It has twice the capacity of the AeroPress Original.
What is the capacity of the AeroPress XL?The AeroPress XL can brew 2-4 cups at one time.
How do you clean the AeroPress XL?For day to day use, a simple rinse is sufficient because the plunger wipes the chamber clean as you brew. However, you can wash the AeroPress XL in the dishwasher (top rack only). We recommend occasionally removing the seal from the end of the plunger for a good washing inside and out with warm water and dish soap.
What grind size works best with the AeroPress XL?For the best brewing experience, use a medium-fine grind size, shake to level the bed of coffee grounds before pouring in the water, and pour the water slowly.
Why does AeroPress XL have unique filters? We had hoped to maintain the diameter of the XL so that it could use the same exact filter paper as the Original, Go, Go Plus, Premium and Clear. This would have been extremely convenient for our existing users who now also choose to buy an XL, and would have been extremely convenient for the simplicity of our own supply chain. However, during the development stage it was determined that this resulted in a less than desirable plunging experience. So in the end we increased both diameter and height, keeping roughly the same proportion as our standard sized coffee presses. And this required a new filter size, unique to the XL.
Why are AeroPress XL filters more expensive? These unique XL paper filters come at a higher cost per filter. Not because the paper is larger, rather because this unique size developed only for the AeroPress XL coffee press means far lower volumes from our vendor than our existing filter size (compatible with AeroPress Original, Clear, Go Plus, Premium and Go) which means a much higher cost per filter. The real cost of our filters is based less on paper and more on the production volume since they have a fair amount of fixed costs (including manual labor) when they run our products so the size of the production runs impacts the cost. And as a reminder, our products are made in the USA.
Can I press into a glass carafe? For the AeroPress Original and AeroPress Clear, we recommend pressing into a glass mug or carafe only if it is sturdy. Do not press into thin or delicate glassware. For the AeroPress XL, do not press into any glass mugs or carafes.
We manufacture a carafe made from crystal-clear, shatterproof Tritan™ that’s perfect for brewing and serving. The carafe is included with the AeroPress XL coffee maker but also sold separately as it’s compatible with the AeroPress Original and Clear coffee makers.
SafetyYou should use a sturdy mug or carafe (such as the one included with AeroPress XL) and should never press into a thin walled glass mug or carafe.
Inverted method:
The “inverted method” can cause the coffee maker to be less stable and prone to mishaps that expose the user to potential burns from hot liquid. Be advised that we strongly discourage using the inverted method because it is less stable and therefore prone to tipping over and exposing the user to hot liquid.
Where is AeroPress Original XL manufactured?AeroPress Original XL is manufactured in the USA. AeroPress was founded by inventor Alan Adler, who created the very first prototype in his garage in Palo Alto, California. While a significant portion of our product line continues to be manufactured in the United States, some products are manufactured overseas driven by consideration of materials, assembly, cost and order quantity thresholds. All AeroPress products continue to be conceived and designed in the USA.
What is the difference between the AeroPress reusable metal filter and the AeroPress paper micro-filters?The AeroPress Stainless Steel Filter allows oils to pass through for a somewhat fuller-bodied cup of coffee, whereas the paper micro-filter keeps out those oils for a smoother, grit-free flavor profile. Whichever filter you use, you're sure to make a delicious cup!
Is the metal used in the AeroPress Stainless Steel Filter food-safe?Yes, the metal used in the AeroPress reusable metal filter is a food-safe, premium grade 316 stainless steel.
Which AeroPress coffee makers are compatible with the XL size AeroPress Stainless Steel Filter? The XL size AeroPress Stainless Steel Filter works with AeroPress XL (not compatible with AeroPress Original, Clear, Premium, Steel, Go, or Go Plus).
What is the difference between 316 and 304 stainless steel?316 and 304 are two different grades of stainless steel. 316 is a premium grade of stainless steel that is much more durable and corrosion resistant than lower grade 304 stainless steel. The AeroPress reusable metal filter is made from 316 stainless steel, unlike other metal filters on the market.
Does AeroPress manufacture any of the other metal filters on the market?Yes, AeroPress also manufactures the AeroPress Gold Tone Super Fine Filter, a great option for fuller-bodied flavor with increased clarity. All other products on the market are made by third parties.
Can I clean the AeroPress Stainless Steel Filter in the dishwasher?Yes, the reusable metal filter is dishwasher safe (top rack only).
What size filter do I use with the AeroPress XL?You should use an XL size filter with the AeroPress XL.
Is the AeroPress reusable metal filter compostable?Because it is made of stainless steel, the AeroPress reusable metal filter is not compostable. However, it is infinitely reuseable, so you can make as many cups of coffee as you like with it. Just wash and reuse for cup after cup of rich, full-bodied coffee!
